Chicken Biryani Recipe

Chicken Biryani is a classic Indian dish that is popular all over the world. It is a rich and flavorful rice dish that is made with aromatic spices, tender chicken, and fragrant basmati rice. Ingredients:

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 4 cups basmati rice
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 4-5 green chillies, sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup oil or ghee
  • 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves (cilantro)
  • 1/2 cup chopped mint leaves
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste

For the Marinade:

  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste

Instructions to Cook:

  1. Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 20-30 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients for the marinade. Add the chicken pieces and mix well to coat them with the marinade. Cover the bowl with a lid or plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  3. In a large pot, heat the oil or ghee on medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the sliced onions and green chillies. Fry until the onions turn golden brown.
  4. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they are soft and pulpy.
  5. Add the marinated chicken pieces to the pot and cook until the chicken is browned on all sides.
  6. Add the red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, and salt to taste. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
  7. In a separate pot, bring the water and milk to a boil. Add the soaked rice and cook until the rice is half done. Drain the water and keep the rice aside.
  8. In the same pot, layer the chicken and rice alternatively, starting and ending with a layer of rice. Cover the pot with a lid and let it cook on low heat for 20-25 minutes or until the rice is fully cooked.
  9. Once the biryani is done, garnish with chopped coriander and mint leaves. Serve hot with raita or salad.
